Put your pants back on, it's not that kind of porn.
...Or is it?

Fun fact: Canadian men and women report significantly higher numbers of sexual partners than most Europeans and Americans, only being beat out by the Swiss and Austrians. Correlation between sex and winter, perhaps? Gotta keep warm somehow! :D

On an unrelated note, what is pornography's role in shaping desire?

Specifically women's desire.

I've been contemplating this for a while now, and I'm still trying to figure it out. There's just so much literature on the relationship between men (gay, straight or bi) and porn, but where's the juice when it comes to women? So everyone knows that men are far more likely than women to use porn to stimulate sexual fantasy, and use porn for the purpose of masturbation. But why?

Putting aside the issues of whether women's role in pornography is inherently degrading or empowering for women, porn as a source of socialization, teaching men and women their 'fundamental' sex roles, and considering porn not in the form of written literature, but purely in visual terms...

What do straight, gay, bi women get out of porn?

This didn't just come out of nowhere, I swear! Recently, I was at my local seedy back-alley sex shop (just kidding. It's very well lit, not shady at all, and there is no pervy old man pawning off dildos behind the counter. Nor is it in a back alley in a disreputable part of town. Shame.) and they have this thing that when you purchase over a hundred dollars you get a free DVD. Okay, free porn, why not?

Now, I've never actually physically owned porn. I never saw the point of purchasing something that I can get off the internet for free, and really, when was the last time anyone actually had to pay money for porn? Ridiculous! For the people, by the people! Ahem. Anyway. Not that they had anything too interesting, insert your own definition of 'interesting' as you will, but I managed to pick up a little gem by the name of "Wheel of Degradation" ft. Bambi Big Boobs (or something else equally cheesy, I don't know, I didn't look too closely).

Typical straight porn. Glorification and gratification revolving around the penis, a little lick here, a lot of suck there, moan moan, pant pant, you're inserting what, where? Ah yes. There. Everyone experiencing orgasms within like 30 secs of penetration, excetera, excetera.

Boring. I mean sure, I'm not gonna lie, as with anything that's even the slightest bit erotic, I got a little thrill, not really anything that would carry me to orgasm, mind, but the thrill that I think that had more to do with the sheer naughtiness of being the voyeur in someone else's sexual experience, staged or otherwise, rather than the sex itself.

So I'm left unsatisfied, and thinking what was the point of all that?

What is it in straight or lesbian porn that's supposed to 'get me off?'

I remember having a conversation with one of my friends about porn, and according to a book that she read (I think it was "Survival of the Prettiest"), she said that when straight men watch straight porn, they are looking at the women, and when women are watching straight porn, they are ALSO looking at the women. She said according to the book, it's because women are more aesthetically pleasing, and are shown in a more erotic light then men. Huh. Okay. True. Because in pretty much all the porn that I've watched, with the exception of gay porn for obvious reasons, most of the guys have big dicks, but are ugly, average, or otherwise unremarkable, so I concur with the women watching women thing, but to what end? Is watching Suzy Sucks-A-Cock getting boned six ways from Sunday supposed to turn my crank? Because all that was going thorough my mind after the initial zing, was that this chick has cellulite.

Mind you, I'm a little crazy when it comes to things like fine lines, sunspots, and now apparently, cellulite, so I may be a special case, and setting aside the fact that I'm thinking WAY too hard (Heh.. hard!) about it, but what else was I supposed to get out of the experience? What is it in watching straight pornography that's supposed to appeal to women?

Let me digress a tiny bit here. Gay porn. Featuring men. They're always fit, trim, and stacked. No complaints here. But I've found a more satisfying experience reading gay porn, rather than watching it. Is it to do with an emotional connection to the characters I'm reading about, or is it because in literature I can let my imagination run wild, not held in the two dimensional constraints that filmed pornography is limited to, or is the locker room naked slut fight simply more believable in written prose? Now since I only have myself to compare to, I don't know if this is the norm. And I hate any biological explanations that have to do with differences in sex drives between men and women, because, hi, I'm a total horndog, and I also refuse to believe that women need to be more emotionally invested to orgasm as opposed to men who are less 'complicated.'

Also another tiny digression that might make me even more the deviant. It's widely known that for (straight) men, if a woman divulges previous lesbian experiences or openness to future lesbian experiences, interest in that woman for men goes way, way up. According to my gender studies prof, for women it's the opposite, that women would most likely be weary of men who have had, or are open to gay experiences. When she said that, all I was thinking was that if I were approached by a semi-attractive man who told me that, I would be like 'Hey-oh! Fifteen points! Where and when can I watch you doing another dude, and let's think of a hand signal for when I should be diving in! Cross that off my bucket list!' Because you know, apparently, I'm a huge pervert. *shrugs* Still sounds pretty yummy to me! Anywho...

I'm gonna have to research the pants off of this! Answers, anyone?

CUUUUUTE! You and your icon make me day! You are adorable; sweetest reaction I've ever encountered when I bring up porn in public. Most people just get a little grossed out by my... enthusiasium on the subject...! I started out trying to be tasteful, but then I remembered I was writing about porn, so that approach FAILED!

Come now, no need to play coy with me, you know you want to. Comment, that is! Don't make me leer you into submission! Because you know I will. *leeeeeeer*

But for reals, what are your thoughts? As someone who writes about my favourite boys in various compromising positions, you must contribute to the discussion! I look forward to learning your position. *eyebrow waggle*

...Everything's so much naughtier, now that we're talking about porn. Success! :DDDDDDDDD
