I've decided, due to lack of excitement in my life, alongside with nothing note-worthy to contribute, to start posting my book reviews! :)

I've finally started compiling a list of recent books I've been reading, and what I thought of them because I can't keep them straight in my head!

If anyone has any book recommendations feel free to share!

Oh, and feel free to drop by my Goodreads page to see old reviews, I going to start with this one review, and post future ones accordingly, so I don't flood!

And I only chose this one book review because I hate the damn book so much I was editing it!

Fire (The Seven Kingdoms, #2)Fire by Kristin Cashore

I've been gone for far too long! What is this Facebook/Twitter business? I am pretty much a techtard, and I don't want to accidentally screw myself. I mean, I don't have either Fackbook OR Twitter, so cross posting shouldn't be a problem, but I have learned the hard way, that I can't underestimate my abilities to fuck myself over when I least expect it.

I really gotta read those LJ Messages!

Moving on!

I've been back for a few weeks now, just getting back into the rhythm of life, I guess. Bleh.

New York was awesome!Collapse )

One week in British Columbia has destroyed ten dedicated years of walking in the shade.

Fuck my life.

Don't get me wrong, I love being outside, love swimming in the lake, water sports, boating, anything that involves being in the sun. Just not the sun itself.

I freckle mad-crazy, and I hate tanning! I strive to preserve my paleness, but I actually tan really REALLY easily. So much for being super paranoid, slathering on the sunscreen every few hours, wrapping my whole body with a towel, and sitting under an umbrella at all times.

I don't know how it happened!!! But I got darker! :(((((((

Now I'm forced to shun outdoor activities that force me to leave my home during daylight hours, as well as baking in long sleeves/pants. Darn. I also hate being hot. I just can't win!

Happy late Canada Day btw! Woot woot!

The villa we were staying at not only over looked a vineyard, but was super close to the border, so when July 4th rolled around we could see fireworks going off across the way, I'm all like, how nice of the Americans to give us such a good belated celebration a few days after the main event! :P

Here there be unrelated ranting!Collapse )

But BC really was beautiful! I'll have to write more later!

I'm so mad! It's been hours, but I'm still so MAD!

I've been in the habit of waking up crazy early to go for a swim most mornings lately, and at the pool they play a radio station that I normally don't listen too. Which is fine, top 40's and all that. Whatever. I'm there to work out.

So today, as I finished a lap and stopped to breath for a bit, the topic of discussion was whether people prefer a male employer or a female one.

You can probably already see where I'm going with this.Collapse )

In unrelated news, yesterday I went to Chapters, and played around with the Kobo, and I really, really want it! It's a lot smaller than I thought, super light, and I don't need all the bells and whistles that come with the other eReaders, so it's perfect for me. My only complaint is that load time is higher than expected, as well as the time it takes to turn a page. So I'm not sure if I should hold out for the second generation, which could be awhile, considering the Kobo just came out last month. Hmmm, decisions, decisions!

I just finished watching John Tucker Must Die for the millionth time (guilty pleasure^^) and there is one thing (concept, idea, notion, ...theory?) that I don't understand, that has always bugged me, that I've found used everywhere, not just in movies, but in books and television as well.

"So it took us twelve bottles of shampoo, and three days to get the stripper cake out of our hair."

What? Why? For a little cake and beer?

Putting aside the fact that I'm putting WAY too much thought into this, why on earth would it be necessary to use that much shampoo?

Writers use this ALL THE TIME! If there's a food fight scene, there is sure to be a little lamenting over how it took a ridiculous amount of shampoo and effort to be clean of cake, ice cream, egg, syrup, pasta sauce, semen, whatever! And I don't get how that would be plausible, seeing as most food meant for consumption (or bodily fluids!) does not usually have the consistency of cement!

Of course it could just be exaggeration or artistic license, and there has to be SOME exaggeration, especially when one character is complaining/relaying the story to another, but when this idea is even used directly in the narrative it makes me go huh? It took HOW much?!?!

Buuuuuut I guess the easiest way to solve this matter, and to end my confusion, is to dunk my head in chocolate icing and see for myself!

Oh! And another totally random thing that doesn't make sense is how in books, movies, and shows, whenever someone spills beer on their clothes, suddenly their outfit is OMG totally ruined beyond repair! Because in my extensive experience, and let me tell you, it's VERY extensive - I'm a very messy drunk, I never found beer to stain clothes.

Not including dry-clean only of course, though why anybody would be decked out in such delicate attire when they plan to get wasted is just irresponsible!

A split-second meeting of the eyes and slight quirk of the lips will get you through the day.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm so freakin' perky right now, I shouldn't be allowed out in public! I make myself sick.

But in my defense, he was super cute. And a fireman. Puuuuuuuuur, baby!

So there I was, minding my own business, at the cross walk, waiting to cross the street and head to class, when there it was, as if descended from the heavens above. A firetruck. *leer* And of course I had to peek inside, natural reflex!!!

!!!! A cute fireman smiled at me!!!!! *squeeeeeeee*

And then I'm left standing on the street corner, giggling to myself and grinning like a fool. I practically floated to class.
